Thursday.

The day started working in and with the breath. Expanding on the in breath, softening on the out.

Kirstie said, “see how the body feels, always knowing that change will occur during the day”. This is a striking statement in many ways. It is so easy to forget the fluidity of the body through time – in the cells, tissues, in our experience of it. It speaks to a gentle and giving attitude to the body: to its imperfections, its history, its possibilities. Je suis nourri.

Still with the breath we worked placing hands on the body (either side, e.g. front and back of belly). This shifted into the same action but with the ‘receiver’ moving (gently).

KS: “following the sense of our breathing”

The task evolved (actually, it many respects today was a single progression, focusing on the breath, culminating in an open improvisation). We rolled down the space (solo), looking to expand and compress the body, and seeking clarity in the floor–body relationship. This task pulled the skeleton into the foreground. In being aware of the skeletal structures, and in aligning, and realigning.

I find myself easily drawn into such material. An opportunity to examine well tilled pathways, to question them, and to seek newness. I think this has to do with the (slow) pace: being given time to observe and sense one’s body in action whilst performing a very specific task.
