This is a 24 hour long video in which Coates has recorded himself manually moving the second hand of a watch second-by-second.

I saw the work at an exhibition called 24/7 at Somerset House in late 2019 and was enthralled by it.

Curiously, when I see the brief excerpt now, it leaves me a little colder. Perhaps this is because I’m increasingly less interested in the conceits of contemporary art and instead yearn for more concrete or perhaps real relationships to resources, objects and making.
